The Begining

HOW THIS CRAZY IDEA CAME TO BE

So, I guess I would be lying if I said I never expected this. The truth is my husband had 'threatened' me with a move to Israel since I met him 14 years ago. In fact, for like a second after I graduated high school, I had thought abou moving to Israel, so this idea had been lurking around for a while, however, it was so in the back of my mind, I never expected it to become a reality.
"Maybe one day", I would tell my husband whenever the subject came up. 'One day", as in when we are really really old, or really really broke. It never occured to me that we would end up making the decision to move to Israel despite the fact that we are neither old nor broke.

It was November 19th of 2012 when our destiny was redesigned. I remeber the date so well because the discomfort of having just been released form the hospital after giving birth to our youngest daughter Ilanit was still so latent that it took me a while to get out of the effects of the occicodone to realize that we were actually discussing making aliyah. "Wouldn't this be the perfect time to make aliyah?" he said. As I raised an eyebrow in disbelief  he continued..."we have a brand new baby who will get adjusted almost seamlessly, a son that will be enterning kindergarten and who will be going through a transition anyways, and we just sold the business" (just the week before, we had sold an ATM business that we had operated for the prior 6 years and that besides having left us with some money, was the only thing tying us down - other than family and friends of course, but that is an entirely different chapter). "It would be great", I said " but we have a brand new baby and moving to another country with a brand new baby... well, that is just too hard". "of course" he replied, and that was that. A conversation to the wind. or so I thought.

Here we are, 8 months later, with a house full of moving boxes, a container sitting on our driveway and tickets booked on an El-Al charter flight three weeks from now.

It is my opinion, that when things are meant to happen, they happen, and so I'd like to think that this big move is meant to be. From that moment when we had that meaningless conversation so many days ago on, things sort of snowballed into a reality. "Let's look into it" turned into opening a file with Nefesh B' Nefesh, into a pilot trip in March, into signing a lease on a new apartment in Modiin, into good byes and so longs.

It is my intention to use this blog to share with you our experience as we embark on this adventure, to help you in some way if you decide to follow, and of course, as therapy for myslef because with all the money this is costing us, there is nothing left for a therapist ;)
